Natural Wines from Slovenian Istria

At Domačija Butul, winemaking has been passed down from generation to generation.
Črt Butul represents the fifth generation of winemakers, proudly continuing a centuries-old family tradition in the heart of Slovenian Istria.

Today we carefully cultivate 4 hectares of vineyards, renewing and expanding them every year while preserving traditional knowledge and local grape varieties.

Our vineyards grow Malvazija, Refošk and Istrski Muškat on diverse hillside locations overlooking the Adriatic Sea.
The warm Mediterranean climate, mineral-rich flysch soil and proximity to the sea create ideal conditions for balanced, expressive and authentic wines. Slovenian Istria is the warmest wine district in Slovenia, where Malvazija and Refošk are considered the “queen and king” of local varieties.

Natural Farming & Minimal Intervention

We farm our vineyards with a deep respect for nature, avoiding unnecessary chemicals and working in harmony with the ecosystem.
In the cellar we follow a minimal-intervention philosophy but with a sharp eye on the natural procesess.

Vinification takes place in stainless steel tanks, glass vessels and used barrels made from oak and acacia wood.
This slow and gentle approach allows our wines to develop depth, texture and character.

Tradition & Maceration (skin contact)

For Malvazija, we often use maceration or “skin contact”, resulting in complex amber wines with rich structure.We farm our vineyards with deep respect for nature, working in harmony with the ecosystem and avoiding unnecessary chemicals. Our goal is to express the character of each vineyard as purely as possible.

In the cellar we follow a minimal-intervention philosophy.

Wine Tastings & Farm Shop

Visitors are warmly invited to experience our wines through guided tastings by prior reservation.
Wine is inseparable from food, landscape and hospitality — which is why tastings at Domačija Butul are often combined with local delicacies and seasonal experiences from the farm.
