Refošk Mali Boškarin 2017 – a mature Refošk for the long haul
Refošk Mali Boškarin 2017 It was hand-picked in October 2017 from a sunny south-western slope near the village of Manžan. Due to its excellent ripeness, the grapes remained on the vine until mid-October; some of the berries had already naturally dried, giving the wine more concentration and extract.
Almost a month of maceration
Fermentation occurred at natural cellar temperatures, while maceration lasted for almost a month.
Three years in wooden barrels
After a gentle pressing, the wine matured for three years in wooden barrels. Part of the wine was bottled as Mali Boškarin, while the remainder continued to age. The soils of marl, flysch, and sandstone contribute minerality and a firm structure.
In a glass
The wine is a dark ruby red, with violet tinges and an almost black depth. The aroma has ripe blueberries, cherries, prunes, blackberries, spices, and a gentle touch of oak. The taste is full, serious, and long, with tannins that give it a ageing potential of 10–15 years.
To the table
We recommend it with red meat, game, mature cheeses, dark sauces and slow-cooked dishes.
