Malvazija Pozabljeni Sod 2016 – the wine that was given its time
Malvazija Forgotten Barrel 2016 It is one of the most special wines from Domačija Butul. The grapes come from Manzan, from a vineyard above the Bay of Koper, where Mediterranean freshness meets Istrian soil and the Bura wind. The harvest took place on 22nd September 2016, when the grapes were at full ripeness.
The Tale of the Forgotten Cask
The initial plan was for a shorter maceration, but the barrel remained in the cellar for longer. The extended contact and development of the flor yeasts have given the wine a distinct oxidative character, reminiscent of more mature wine styles with a nutty, almost Marsala-like note.
In a glass
The aromas and taste are a blend of almonds, ripe pear, dried apple, dried fruit, and a slight saltiness. The wine is complex, meditative, and best served slightly warmer, not too chilled.
To the table
It pairs excellently with mature cheeses, dishes with nuts, poultry, pork, mushrooms, rich vegetable dishes, and slow-cooked dinners where the wine has time to tell its story.
